Swapnil Gawade has over 13 years of experience spanning various functions such as fundamental research, automotive product development, scientific technology consulting and technology commercialization.
He designed and developed complex automotive systems at Honda R&D in USA for 6 years. This role has molded him into not just a good designer, who focuses on the complexity of the product, but also an engineer who thinks holistically about the integration of his product with the rest of the system.
The turning point of his career was the MBA that he pursued at The Ohio State University, where he got interested in technology commercialization. Apart from the regular classes, he enrolled in the technology commercialization program in which he worked with researchers who had early stage technologies and were interested in commercializing them, but did not have the experience to take it to the market. He worked closely with the researchers to develop product concepts and new business models and finally prepare a business plan to pitch it to the investors.
Pursuing his dreams of commercializing early stage technologies, he returned to India and joined Battelle India in 2011. He led a group that helped clients make investment decisions worth several million dollars by evaluating technologies, understanding market dynamics and identifying white spaces. On a day to day basis, he and his team dealt with technologies in diverse sectors such as water and wastewater treatment, waste to energy, advanced materials, and clean and renewable energy.
Swapnil graduated from The Ohio State University with a Master in Business Administration, specializing in Technology Commercialization. In addition, he also received Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit in USA and Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from University of Pune.
